Introducing our Gym M.O.M (Member of the Month) for March, 2021 … Rosiris Miranda!

Since the day of her initial consultation, Rosi has been a constant at our gym, setting out to accomplish all of the goals she set from day one.

Rosi’s success can be attributed to her character and makeup. She shows up every morning at 6am, follows coaches instructions, sticks to the game plan and has fun! Her positive, enthusiastic energy is contagious, making waking up for the 6am class well worth the effort.

Read more about Rosiris below!

Q: What made you decide to start functional fitness training?
Pure peer pressure. A good friend of mine started going to this outdoor functional training gym and she quickly became obsessed with it and was constantly inviting me to join her, every single time she went she texted me with a “I’m picking you up to come with me”. Finally I caved and I became even more obsessed than her.

Q: Are you a student/working professional/both? What do you do for a living?
I work for a Project Management Consulting firm giving PM consultation to construction projects in Data Centers. I also work as a host at Black Lamb during the weekends. It’s in hibernation now but come say hi once we re-open!

Q: What are your hobbies/interests outside of the gym?
I’m currently trying to learn French so on my free time I study French. Hopefully I can become fluent before I die, lol.

Q: What are some of your favorite movements (name up to three)?
Back squats, DL, and I really like rowing.

Q: What are your least favorite movements?
Any gymnastic movement is my least favorite also not a fan of running.

Q: What movements do you want to improve at?
I can make an essay answering this question but I’d say I really want to be able to do a strict pull up sometime!

Q: What advice do you have for someone considering our gym?
That if they are looking for not only great programming and coaching but to be part of a very inclusive community that has a commitment to be a change agent within the community, come join us, specially at 6:00 am! Lol

Q: What’s your favorite “cheat” food?
Pizza hands down!

Q: What’s your spirit animal and why?
I’m definitely a sloth, I take my time doing something but I get it done!

Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?
Liking cheesy rom-coms.

Q: Do you have any nicknames?
Growing up I didn’t have any nickname but since living here people call me Rosi or Rose.

Q: An interesting fact that we probably don’t know about you!
I lived in Madrid, Spain for a short period of time and while there I taught English to top executives in different Spanish companies.

What is the March of Dimes? The March of Dimes is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health of mothers and babies, with a focus on preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Learn more about the March of Dimes here. Why is it important to us? We are excited to host a workout in support of the March of Dimes and the South Shore Hospital NICU team. My sister-in-law, Amanda Dougherty, and my nephew, Owen Dougherty, received a lot of care during Owen's premature and traumatic birth. Amanda and her family will be walking on the SSH NICU/SCN team in the March for Babies walk on May 9th, and we would love to support her by donating to the cause and helping other families in need. When's the charity class? We would love for everyone to come join us, no matter your fitness level, in support of this great cause. The class will be hosted on Sunday, April 12th, at 11 am. T-shirts will also be available for purchase as a preorder up until March 27th. All proceeds from registration of this event and profits from all shirts purchased will be donated to the SSH NICU/SCN team under Amanda Dougherty. Donate and Jump into Class If you would like to donate more, you can go directly to Amanda’s page and donate here.

Strength expression is our ability to show or utilize the strength we have. We call it expression because in the world of lifting, CrossFit, functional fitness, or training, our ability to show that strength varies. Even though our potential strength is the same, we are not always able to fully express it the way we want. Whether that is hitting a max back squat, doing heavy thrusters in a CrossFit style workout, or hitting that heavy clean complex when olympic lifting, we will not always be able to hit our maxes, this is because of factors outside of just our strength itself.
