Q: How did you get started in fitness?

I got started in high school when I started playing more sports. I played soccer, basketball, and ran track. After my second injury, I got more involved in strength training. I started Crossfit/functional fitness my freshman year of college and went to Crossfit On The Hill.

Q: Why did you decide to become a coach?

I loved the gym environment and the people. I wanted the ability to learn with others and help them become better.

Q: What is one thing you want the members to know about you?

I’m compassionate with their abilities, no matter their skill or ability level, especially when they want to try something new. I love when people want to keep trying – it’s really inspiring.

I’m also a big sci-fi fan and I love comics. (I love star wars!)

Q: What is your favorite movement to do in a workout? Least favorite?

My favorite is wall balls. When I first started I couldn’t do it at all, but I developed confidence when I could do 20 lbs. I like dumbbell hang cleans too.  My least favorite is definitely overhead squats, they are so exhausting.

Q: What is your favorite movement to coach?

Definitely the squat. There’s so much to it. When I started at the PT Clinic I got more exposed to hinge patterns, I really liked learning about them. It’s definitely helped me develop my coaching skills.

Q: Favorite post-workout snack?

Chocolate, Peanut Butter, & Banana Smoothie

Q: Top 3 songs on a workout playlist?

Anything by Kanye West, Logic, or Lincoln Park.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about R3vive?

I get to see Derek every day.

Aside from that, the community and people collectively giving at least 1 hour of their day to make themselves healthier

Q: What’s in your gym bag?

My laptop, shorts a blender bottle, and Gatorade.

Q: What is your favorite thing about coaching?

Seeing others witness how capable they are of more.

Hey R3VIVE Athletes, Our next programming cycle runs from September 15th to November 7th. It's an 8-week cycle that will continue to see strength progression carrying from what we did last cycle in Functional fitness. While Pump will begin working unilateral strength progressions. Functional Fitness: This cycle will continue our progression from the skill and lifts from last cycle, while trying to integrate them into more of our conditioning. We will do this by focusing on different portions of the lifts during our strength portion then performing smaller sets of gymnastic skills in our conditioning. You will also see conditioning that is purely focused on our aerobic capacity and working mainly on monostructural elements, such as running, rowing and biking. Build: This A-B week cycle is designed to build foundational strength through consistent progression, with a strong focus on Back Squats and Strict Presses, including variations for balanced weekly training. Conditioning will have some longer aerobic pieces and begin to include more skills like strict Toes-to-Bar, and Pull-ups from last cycle. See the chart below for details.

Our next programming cycle runs from July 12th to September 12th. It's an 8-week cycle, so it's a bit shorter than the last one. We'll be bringing back some Olympic lifts and continuing with the A-B week progressions. The post Functional Fitness Training Block: Resurgence Cycle appeared first on R3VIVE FITNESS.

As we start our Fall cycle, we're embracing a more structured approach to our strength training. Mondays will focus on squats, Tuesdays on upper pulling and gymnastic skills, Wednesdays on pressing, and Fridays on the hinge and posterior chain. Let's gear up for progress this season!
