Introducing our Gym M.O.M. (Member of the Month) for June 2024 … Blake Mayes!

After a long delay in previous gym M.O.M’s we’re now thrilled to honor Blake, one of our longest tenured members. We can’t thank Blake (and Katie), enough for their support through out the years as they have been a staple of our gym’s community, always bringing a warm, welcoming vibe to class.

Although Blake is softly spoken, his words cary weight and he’s a man of integrity, a value we share at R3VIVE!

Learn more about Blake below:

Q: What made you decide to start functional fitness training?
My now-wife got into functional fitness a few years prior and “encouraged” me to give it a try. She’s been so pleased with the results I doubt she’ll ever let me take a break.

Q: Are you a student/working professional/both? What do you do for a living?
I manage a small business that supports the US Department of Energy in managing its clean energy projects.

Q: What are your hobbies/interests outside of the gym?
Being a dad to Noma and Isla has consumed most of my hobbies, but in a past life I loved to fly fish, backpack, hunt, and watch the University of Tennessee beat up on Alabama.

Q: What are some of your favorite movements (name up to three)?
My wife has always encouraged me to focus on the beach muscles for some reason, so our family loves a good bicep curl, but I’ve loved learning any of the Olympic lifts.

Q: What are some of your least favorite movements?
DB box step ups and burpees.

Q: What movement do you want to improve at?
I’d love to nail down the bar muscle up.

Q: What advice do you have for someone considering our gym?
This is a great place to learn functional fitness – super easy, welcoming place to start and grow.

Q: What is your favorite “cheat” meal?
Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
Complaining about all of the other members of the month selected over me for the last 48 months since I joined.

Q: Do you have any nicknames?
My college fraternity used to call me fat Blake but now when they see me at weddings they just ask me for gym recs.

Q: Tell us an interesting fact that we probably don’t know about you…
I was once a contestant on Nickelodeon’s “Slime Time Live”!

Hey R3VIVE Athletes, Our next programming cycle runs from September 15th to November 7th. It's an 8-week cycle that will continue to see strength progression carrying from what we did last cycle in Functional fitness. While Pump will begin working unilateral strength progressions. Functional Fitness: This cycle will continue our progression from the skill and lifts from last cycle, while trying to integrate them into more of our conditioning. We will do this by focusing on different portions of the lifts during our strength portion then performing smaller sets of gymnastic skills in our conditioning. You will also see conditioning that is purely focused on our aerobic capacity and working mainly on monostructural elements, such as running, rowing and biking. Build: This A-B week cycle is designed to build foundational strength through consistent progression, with a strong focus on Back Squats and Strict Presses, including variations for balanced weekly training. Conditioning will have some longer aerobic pieces and begin to include more skills like strict Toes-to-Bar, and Pull-ups from last cycle. See the chart below for details.

Our next programming cycle runs from July 12th to September 12th. It's an 8-week cycle, so it's a bit shorter than the last one. We'll be bringing back some Olympic lifts and continuing with the A-B week progressions. The post Functional Fitness Training Block: Resurgence Cycle appeared first on R3VIVE FITNESS.

As we start our Fall cycle, we're embracing a more structured approach to our strength training. Mondays will focus on squats, Tuesdays on upper pulling and gymnastic skills, Wednesdays on pressing, and Fridays on the hinge and posterior chain. Let's gear up for progress this season!
