Introducing our Gym M.O.M. (Member of the Month) for August 2024 … Chris Lako!

The decision to choose Chris for the honor of gym M.O.M. was an easy choice, given the hard work, dedication and consistency he has displayed since joining us.

One of the many things that is great about Chris, is his determination towards achieving his goals – utilizing both personal training for improving his movement technique and classes for executing what he learns in his private settings with a coach. This plan towards success is ideally what we would recommend to all and we can see how it has paid dividends towards his fitness goals over his tenure.

We enjoy to opportunity to work with Chris and we’re excited to honor him for this month!

Learn more about Chris below:

Q: What made you decide to start functional fitness training?
I started functional training because of a friend and fellow member, Rajiv. I only thought I would do it once or twice a week but quickly became hooked, in part, because of the supportive community and amazing coaches at R3Vive.

Q: Are you a student/working professional/both? What do you do for a living?
I am a working professional, as an economist in corporate litigation.

Q: What are your hobbies/interests outside of the gym?
Playing with my Corgi, Lulu; hiking, traveling

Q: What are some of your favorite things about R3VIVE?
How supportive and friendly both the members and coaches are. I knew absolutely nothing about functional training or even strength training prior to joining R3vive. However, everyone was so encouraging and supportive in helping me learn the movements and modifying the workouts while I learned.

Q: How much progress have you made during your time here at R3VIVE?
Prior to R3vive I focused more on cardio and racquet sports. I don’t think I had ever done a squat or deadlift prior to R3vive and now I back squat and deadlift over 200lbs. My initial goal was to do an unassisted pull-up and now I can do weighted pull-ups.

Q: What current goals do you seek to accomplish?
Continue my progress with strength training.

Q: What advice do you have for someone considering our gym?
Even if you haven’t been to a gym before, don’t be scared to join. While it can look intimidating, the coaches and fellow members will be there supporting you. I’ve both personally experienced this and also seen other new members get personalized help and workouts modified based on their experience.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
Sweets, especially ice cream.

Q: Tell us an interesting fact that we probably don’t know about you…
Despite my brother being a personal trainer, I never really used a gym until R3vive.

What is the March of Dimes? The March of Dimes is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health of mothers and babies, with a focus on preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Learn more about the March of Dimes here. Why is it important to us? We are excited to host a workout in support of the March of Dimes and the South Shore Hospital NICU team. My sister-in-law, Amanda Dougherty, and my nephew, Owen Dougherty, received a lot of care during Owen's premature and traumatic birth. Amanda and her family will be walking on the SSH NICU/SCN team in the March for Babies walk on May 9th, and we would love to support her by donating to the cause and helping other families in need. When's the charity class? We would love for everyone to come join us, no matter your fitness level, in support of this great cause. The class will be hosted on Sunday, April 12th, at 11 am. T-shirts will also be available for purchase as a preorder up until March 27th. All proceeds from registration of this event and profits from all shirts purchased will be donated to the SSH NICU/SCN team under Amanda Dougherty. Donate and Jump into Class If you would like to donate more, you can go directly to Amanda’s page and donate here.

Strength expression is our ability to show or utilize the strength we have. We call it expression because in the world of lifting, CrossFit, functional fitness, or training, our ability to show that strength varies. Even though our potential strength is the same, we are not always able to fully express it the way we want. Whether that is hitting a max back squat, doing heavy thrusters in a CrossFit style workout, or hitting that heavy clean complex when olympic lifting, we will not always be able to hit our maxes, this is because of factors outside of just our strength itself.
